  3. Hi Mary - thanks for always being so generous with give-aways!! My worst Christmas gift was a sweater that was gaudy and too small. I donated it to Goodwill if I remember correctly. But, I said I loved it with a big smile :-D

  5. When I was 7 my great-aunt gave me this HUGE purse/bag thing. It was black with patchwork all in dark leathers. It had 2 large shoulder straps and it hung way past my knees. I could have fit my little brother in it, and almost did, cause he wouldn't stop snickering at me!

  7. Hi Mary Hope all is well with you and all of your loved ones!
The worst Christmas present was 2 years ago- something that I also believe was re-gift item. It was a bath gift set- wait that doesn't seem bad right? lol when I decided to open it just to smell the shower gel and the lotion it was super moldy on the bottom of the bottles. I didn't say anything because I figured maybe this person wanted to give me something and searched in her home/storage shed for something that was given to her a "long time ago."

  12. WOW! It is great that I can vent about the worst Christmas gift I ever received. I was about 8 or 9 years old and my grandmother gave me a yellow dress and my cousin got the pretty pink one. The two dresses were of the same design, but I do not like the color yellow. So I cried because I wanted the pink dress instead.
Thanks for giving us all the opportunity to win.
    Have a Very Merry Christmas!

  14. Hi Mary
Love your YT videos and you have fun giveaways. I guess my worst Xmas present was to get nothing, which is most of the time. Hubby always says he doesn't know what to buy me so he gets nothing. However I can't complain because when he finds out I want something he buys its no matter what time of the year it is. Like someone else mentioned, it would be nice to have a surprise even if it's only a card.

  18. Merry CHRISTmas Mary! I hope you and your family have a blessed day and a fabulous 2012 as well.

My worst Christmas gift was actually from my sweet, generous husband. Years ago, while we were in college and were scrimping and scraping by he 'somehow' came across some really ugly short, fat pinecone candles. They were old and faded and well...not the nicest. That was my Christmas gift. I still pick on him a little (in good fun).

  19. Merry Christmas Mary,
The worse present I ever got was an electric typewriter. I was tying on it Christmas day and the paper got stuck in it and my brother ripped it out of the machine and broke my typewriter. I never got to use it again. :-(

  20. Hi Mary...
Well...I really can't think of a really bad one that I got but one year I don't know what it was with my two boys but one of my boys gave my husband one of those singing fish on a wood plaque and the other boy gave him a gift card from Walmart with nothing on it. Of course he didn't find that out until he tried to use it LOL. Hope you have a Merry Christmas and thank you for the chance to win these awesome cartridges.

  21. Oh I have received some pretty interesting gifts before, but the one that stands out the most is when I was 23 my (now) MIL gave me this awful long flannel nightie. It definately looked liked one she would have in her drawer! LOL! She is known for her "unusual" gift giving, but we all get a kick out of seeing what everyone gets every year! :) We live by "it's the thought that counts!"
I hope you have a very Happy Holiday season. Thanks for all you do!

  22. Hi Mary!
I left a comment on YT as Passionwriter70.

I can't say I have had a worst gift.. Just gifts I couldn't use. But I would give them to someone who could. (Not regift them) I am thankful other's are thoughtful toward me. Growing up, we were lucky to get one thing for Christmas. And sometimes that one thing meant a brown bag of fruit with a few pieces of candy. Those are some of my most memoriable gifts. :)
Thank you for everything you do! Love your videos!
    Merry Christmas!!

  25. My worst Christmas gift was from my sister in law. It was a black sweater, I know your thinking not a bad gift. It was dirty and full of dog hair, something she picked out of the dirty clothes! lol I just smiled and said thank you and when I got home threw it away. It is the thought that counted not the gift itself. Merry Christmas Mary!!!!

  26. Hey Mary,
I can't say that it is the worse but definitely a funny memory. When my son was very young he bought me what he thought was a great idea and one he was very proud of. It was a mop bucket :) he said I wanted to get mom something I know she would use!!! His siblings still give him a hard time about it. Lol guess that was one you could say it was for sure the thought that counts.

I don't dare tell him what I want because he comes up with better ideas for me than I do. Have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year. I so enjoy your blog and thanks for the chance to win.

  34. Thanks for the chance to win! Well I love all my gifts I get, but a couple years ago my SIL re-gifted me stuff she got the year before and stuff that she had in storage and just never used. How I knew is everything that had packaging, that packaging style changed twice since the style it had. Plus I don't burn candles. So the next year I was gonna get her some Renuzits the $1 smelly cones from WM. But she is the type that complains about giving gifts, but complains when she don't get what she wants or likes. You can't win with her. So now we don't even give gifts to each other. Her and BIL complain too much. I don't complain, but that gift was bad that she gave me. I hope you have Fabulous Christmas, Mary!!

Years ago.. I received a lotion gift set, which at the time I really loved. The scent was so nice. A few days later after I had applied it a few times, half my body broke out into ugly hives and the itch was unbearable. I had to see a dermatologist to help repair my skin.

  96. My worst Christmas gift was from my ex-husband...a sweater that I don't even think my grandmother would have worn. It was UGLY! I took it back but I know his feelings were hurt. He didn't do so well at picking any gifts for me anytime really.

Merry Christmas to you and your family, Mary

  97. Oh Mary! You are so awesome to do this wonderful give-a-way!! The worse Christmas gift I ever got was from my 2nd step-mother. I was in my 30's at the time and she gave me the most gaudy pair of houseshoes. They had bear heads on the toes!! I don't know why she ever thought I would ever wear them!! :)

  98. My mom is a pack rat & she's cheap, so considering my birthday is 2 days after Christmas, I get a combinations of worst gifts. So in saying all that, she likes to shop at the thrift & 99 cent store, she always seem to get the spandex panties that are cheap & don't fit because I have a big bubble butt...but she tries. I keep them anyway :)
    Merry Christmas yal

  99. Oh Mary, I'm sitting here laughing just thinking about this.In my husband's family we used to draw names. His sister got mine and let's just say she is very frugal. She made me a peach colored blouse and a purse to match. Now I am very hard to fit because I am only 5 feet tall. The blouse came down to my knees and the purse ended up being a very good holder for my balls of yarn. I never wore the blouse. So as I type this I am laughing. Thanks for the memory. Teresa

  103. We exchanged names at the office. The boss had mine. It was a beautifully wrapped gift and everyone was anticipating something quite special. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when opened the package revealed a tacky candle holder crafted from safety pins and yellow plastic beads. Plastic foliage completed the ugly thing. It now makes the rounds of my family as the yearly gag gift. 20 years have passed and it still is going strong and uglier by the year!

  105. As I was listening to you regarding the giveaway...I started laughing! I cannot WAIT to read all these comments. I love this! My worst Christmas present the gaudiest bright neon yellow dress that my grandmother made for me when I was 14. You could see me coming a mile away. I am olive skinned and the yellow dress made me face "look" yellow. My poor Mom told my grandmother she accidently washed it in hot water and it shrunk so I could not wear it. Thank goodness for mothers!

  106. The worst gift I ever received was some salmon color corduroy pants I got when I was about 17 or 18. it was during the 80's but those pants were so ugly that the person who bought them must have purchased them during the 70's! Since we had to open the presents in front of everybody I could not be rude so all I could said was "Wow... how did you pick these?"

We were not sure at all what it was, but we finally figured out it was a ceramic bowl (perhaps for cookies???) but it was in the shape of a head of cabbage. It was the ugliest thing and I was so happy that no one other than my husband was with me when it was opened. We laughed really hard.

  112. Well, the worst Christmas gift(s) I felt I ever got was when I was a little girl, my Mother would always give me underwear. It was so embarrassing to me. They were always white cotton with gathered eyelet lace at the leg openings.

  113. I must be blessed because I can't really think of a bad gift I have gotten without going waaaay back - when I was a teenager I had asked for a guitar. Imagine my teenage horror when I opened an ACCORDION Christmas morning! But it was all good because my parents had ordered a guitar that had not arrived yet so they wrapped a borrowed accordion as a joke.
I have had fun reading these comments, thanks for the give-a-way and Merry Christmas Mary!

  116. Christmas is such a special time celebrating the birth of Jesus. Who was born to die, then Easter when he showed us He lives.
I must say without a doubt the worst gift was a shaver, I don't know what it was called but it was suppose to be that you only shaved once a month if you lived that long.. Oh my what could the matter have been. Never to be one to give up. Yes, I thought I must have done something wrong so I tryed again later as the tears fell I knew this was a big mistake.

  117. Merry Christmas Mary! I have to say that receiving a can of peanuts at 10 years old had to be the worst. I was hoping for a barbie or coloring book but no I got nuts from my aunt and I am pretty sure she got them at the gas station. Now that I'm older the gifts dont matter but I recommend not giving a 10 year old peanuts for Christmas.

  120. Merry Christmas Mary and to all of your readers too.
Now my worst Christmas present was when I was a little girl. At that time all I wanted was toys and dolls..no clothes or things like that. Well there was a big package under the tree for me and I kept looking at it and shaking it and testing it for days to see if I could guess what it was.
Well Christmas day it was the first present that I opened and when I did I found out it was a sweater and some under things. I was so disappointed by this that to me at the time it was a huge let down from all I had hoped it would be.
I was about six years old and really disappointed that it was clothes. I hated getting clothes for Christmas. I wanted toys or games things I could play with..

Sorry but that present was a huge let down. ha ha ha

  121. I can't ever remember getting a bad Christmas present. I have always felt the Christmas was the time for wants...not needs... and as a child we always got new clothes because that was mid point and the new ones for school were getting old. I try to give wants. Thanks for all the time you give to us doing the videos and Merry Christmas. Jesus is the reason for the season.

  122. I've always believed that it truly does not matter how much a gift costs but the value that the person receiving the gift feels. I could receive something that cost $1.00 and if it has value to me it is the best gift. The worst gift from people I know is perfume because if they really know me they would also know I'm allergic to many perfumes.

  124. When I was a small child, my parents took my sister and I to a Christmas party each year, put on by their local American Legion. Santa Claus would come and hand out a gift to each child. Every child got a really neat toy or game. My sister and I always got a brush and comb or something really practical. We thought that Santa did not like us very well. Years later, we found out that our parents snuck in the gifts ahead of time for their own kids.

My not necessarily worst but very embarrassing gift was a box of tampons and trying to explain what they were to two small children on Christmas morning.
Another awful one was a manicure set from a soon to be ex boyfriend who was obsessed with fingernails. Off he went!

  129. Thanks Mary for a chance to win free cartridges. I can honestly say that I don't remember every getting a bad Christmas gift. I have a bad Christmas experience (kinda funny too). When we were kids myself and my 3 siblings would jump on my parents bed to wake them up. A few years ago when we were all home for Christmas we decided to do that again. Needles to say 4 overgrown children broke their bed. We got the "I hope you know you're going to pay for that" speech.

He left me after 18 years of marriage even though I never told him that was the worst gift I ever received. Have a Merry Christmas Mary - and a Cricut Cartridge would be one of the best gifts I could receive this year! God Bless ~ Gail ~

  134. Mary, I have to say that I have had quite a few worst Christmas gifts but the nor that really sticks in my mind is the year that my dad had been unable to work most of the year and so the gift giving was going to be pretty limited (which in our family we were very sensible when it came to spending and giving already). I had two younger brothers in my family so to make it a better Christmas for the little ones, we had Santa Clause deliver the Santa gifts that year. I was so embarrassed when I opened mine - it was the days before pantyhose - I got a garter belt! The other thing that was a disappointment that year was the one thing I really wanted was the new Living Bible that was just out. My sister got it instead! I got a pair of pants that didn't fit! I cried so hard that year. I'm sure I made my Mom feel bad - she was trying so hard to make ends meet that year. Have a merry Christmas and may everyone have a blessed new year!

We were spending Christmas with my family in another state and I was so embarrassed. I wouldn't even look at the box after we got home, but finally started using them around Easter. When I next saw my sister-in-law, she ask how I liked the dishes and I told her they were ugly, and she told me she had picked them out. Embarrassed again, but I told the truth.

  159. What a fabulous giveaway! I would absolutely LOVE to win these cartridges!!
Anyway, there was a person in my dear husband's family (person has since passed away), who was on a very limited income but always strived to have a gift of some sort for everybody in the family. Having grown up in a family who was always struggling financially, any gift this person gave me, my hubby or our children was always gratefully appreciated. Although I don't recall any of us getting one of her "special" gifts, I do remember it happening to my sis-in-law. One Christmas, sis-in-law and her hubby received a set of obviously used pots and pans (they hadn't been washed very well). Poor woman had to scour her Christmas gift before she was able to use it lol. Sis-in-law was a wee bit upset that year.
I dearly miss my hubby's relative and her "special" gifts and every year I place an ornament we once gave her on our own Christmas tree so that she is always with us.
Wishing all of you in blog land a safe and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

  180. Hi Mary, How fun! I'm smiling over all the "bad Christmas gifts" everyone is telling about. Mine was a DVD movie with Sylvester Stallone in it, called Over the Top. I made the mistake of watching this movie with my hubby and made a comment about it not being a bad movie. Well, I sure was surprised to find it as my Christmas gift that year! Too funny!

  181. Ahaha! What a hilarious question! The worst Christmas Gift I was ever given was from my EX-Mother in-law! She gave me a pair of the awful black stretch pants that were a few sizes too small, and I think she bought them at goodwill! I am all about the re-gifting... but this was bad!

  182. Hi Mary - this is a hard one to comment on cause I appricate everything that is given to me cause its the thought that counts. However, I did a HUGE ring from my DH that I will never wear - its got diamonds around it aud built up like a pyrimd. I'm a simple granny and would never have a reason to wear it. Again its the thought that counts so its still sitting in my jewelry box.
BTY - I just love your videos, look forward to them all the time. You have given me so much inspiration cause I love doing the cards.
Thanks again for all the hard work you do.
    Hugs, Flo

  185. I was in a gift exchange and gave a really great gift..... I got a five pack of life saver candies in a paper book. Was the dumbest gift i ever got ...I was just a kid but I cried and cried. I have hated gift exchanges ever since.
You are a very generous person and this is a great gift you are giving away. Thank you so much for letting all of us have a chance.

  186. I debated on whether I should post this or not but here goes. Years ago my Ex-husband gave me a knitting "bag" It wasn't just any bag it was a wooden bucket with male "parts" decoupaged on it. Hum!! I wonder why he is an ex. All his hard work got thrown in the trash. That was one gift that ever "the thought counts" didn't matter.

  187. The worst Christmas present I ever received was a miniature wooden "outhouse" with a picture of me inside it! My father-in-law had a strange sense of humor (he was the one who gave it to me)!

  188. My worst Christmas gift was a big furry "old lady hat" from my brother-in-law. I hated it and gave it to my mother who loved it. The sad thing was my brother-in-law always spent a lot of money on gifts. You could never take it back because he lived out of state and we didn't have that particular store in our state. It was an ongoing joke in the family to see what gifts my brother-in-law purchased for Christmas.

  189. This will be the first year that I will not be seeing either one of my sisters so it's going to be a rough one. I haven't spent Christmas with my parents in 15 years. I am thankful however that I can pick up the phone and wish them a Merry Christams and tell them how much I love them. I also am very thankful for my 2 boys and wonderful husband.

Thank you for all of your wonderful projects. Your videos are just awesome.

Have a Wonderful Christmas along with your loved ones.

  190. The worst gift I received was from my 8 year old son. He had gone into my closet and wrapped an old pair of house shoes that I should have thrown away. He was forever playing jokes on me. Have the merriest of holidays.

My worst Christmas gift was a pair of neon yellow (really hard rubber) flip flops. With HUGE yellow rhinestones on them. Oh did I mention it came with a matching wallet neon yellow and rhinestones included!

    Got to love the Holidays....

  195. Hi Mary,
The worst gift I ever got was from my mother-in-law. She sent me this small plastic ring. It was my husband's teething ring when he was a baby, however it was not a real baby's teething ring - it was just a piece of industrial plastic and it was ugly. She thought I should hang it on my tree - I didn't.
Love all that you do Mary. Keep up the good work. You inspire me. Merry Christmas to you.
    Love, Kathy

  196. I think my worst Christmas was when I got a new vacum. I did not ask for it. I wanted clothes or personal items. Not a stinking vacum. I had a housekeeper at the time so it wasn't like I even used it. I guess it could have been worse! I am still burned about it!
