  5. Our fun family tradition is that we go to a local christmas tree farm and find the perfect tree and cut it down. This year was the first year that our son was able to really help. He was a week from his 4th birthday and told us that morning that he was a man and was going to help cut the tree down. When we found the perfect tree and said a special homoly (husband sings this every year) song our son bent down and was ready to start cutting! My husband helped him but he cut the tree pretty much by himself! He was a proud little man that day!! We got really good pictures and some video of him pulling the tree cart up to the tree shaker. We look forward to this tradition every year!! :)

We spend our time playing games, eating and remembering what Jesus's Birth is really about. My kids are all gone so I spend my time making homemade gifts to share with them. My husband works in retail so every year I bake and make meals to show them our appreciation. This year I did crafts for all 40 employee's. I love all your videos and can't wait for the next one to post. You have an amazing talent. TFS Kris

  30. Mary, love your blog and especially your videos. When my kids were living at home, we opened one package on Christmas Eve. Then on Christmas morning, one person would open one gift so everyone could see what the gift was and the expression on their face; then the next person would do the same; after each person opened one gift, then it would start all over again. We wanted to make Christmas last longer.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

As a child I was always allowed to open one gift on Christmas Eve after supper. When I had a family we let our children do this as well. Now our grandkids follow this tradition as well. It's as much fun deciding which one will be THE Christmas Eve gift as opening the rest the next morning.

We have our shopping completed but I just like coming up with some kind of gift holder for my gift cards (got any suggestions hee hee) Anyway, I thought I share a new tradition we have started last year and plan on doing it again this year to! On Christmas Day we go to my parents early in the day so by night time when we get home (and since my son is older now and no toys to play with) we get a little restless. We went last year to the movies and seen Blind Side and this year we are going to pick out another movie that we will all enjoy! We really enjoyed it and decided to make it a new tradition! I would love to win this and thank you sooooo much for the chance!

Sorry we missed you the last 2 days in Lexington. I do want to meet you someday. We are tired but had a great trip. I shopped most of Monday. I had all my Christmas done and then now I have more to wrap. We trade off days that we open gifts. My husbands family did it on Christmas day and my parents did it on Christmas Eve. Since Dave is gone now we do it on Christmas Eve. One other thing is the cartridge Twinkle Toes reminds me of when I was a child and I use to dance on my dads feet with him. He is now 85 and still dances on occassion. Hope you are doing well and have a "Merry Christmas & Happy New Year". Good luck to everyone and thanks for the giveaway.

  61. Hi Mary and Merry Christmas. Our Christmas tradition was to get together
on Christmas Eve as a family with my father (grandfather). We would start
the evening by eating together and teasing the children by telling them we
were changing our tradition by opening gifts in the morning. Once we got
everyone fed, the kids would take their places in the living room and my oldest daughters would pass out gifts. My father would sit back and laugh as
he watched all his grandchildren laugh. He was always amazed at the gifts
that were given to him. This year that tradition came to an end with the passing of my father but I am sure we will all be able to hear his laughter and
forever cherish these memories as we start new family traditions.

  65. Merry Christmas Mary! Love your blog, I follow it daily. Our Christmas tradition is that we have The Christmas Story on TV on Christmas morning while we open our gifts. We've done this for probably 18 years - we even did this when my husband was in the hospital over Christmas. We took all our gifts and family to his hospital room, turned on The Christmas Story on TV and had our traditional Christmas day.
I hope you and your family have a blessed Christmas.

When my grandchildren write their letters to Santa my daughters gives me their letters and I'm the Santa and I write back to them..SHHHH!
So when my grandchildren comes over for dinner at my house on Christmas Day there is always present outside on the lawn or stuck in the bushes and these presents come from Santa and they always asked how did Santa know that they were coming to Nana's house...
I've been doing this for about 9 yrs now and the look on their face when they open the gifts and it's one of the item they put on their list...
Mary, I've enjoyed every video you have done and all the give-away that you do..

  69. I guess my family's Christmas tradition is the 3am wakeup that I give my kids. I work really hard for that "oooooo" moment when they 1st see what Santa brings, so in order not to miss it by them sneaking down to peek, I always wake them up around 3am, make them sit at the top of the stairs until good and "awake", then I position myself (and the camera) so that I can see their delight when they see the gifts. to me, thats my "ah-ha moment" and I lvoe it! thanks Mary for everything you do! Merry Christmas to you and yours!

  72. Merry Christmas! Coming from scandinavian heritage, I grew up opening presents on Christmas Eve. My sisters, myself and our families still go over to my parents house on Christmas Eve and open presents from each other. We now play a game where we sit all in a circle with a present and a story is read about Mr. & Mrs. Wright. The way this story goes is everytime the word Wright or right is read we shift our present to the next person on the right. And everytime the word left is used, it is shifted to the left. It gets hysterical after awhile. We then open the present that is left on our lap when the story is finished. This is just one of the many traditions we have.

  75. One of the fun things that happens every year is that DH and our DD try to outdo each other on the crazy way that they wrap their gifts that they give each other! Last year DH used some of those boxes that each one is smaller than the other, wrapped each one and the smallest one had a note in it to start back at the beginning. He had a piece of cardstock cut to fit the inside of the lid and had put money behind it. Soooooo funny!! :)

  85. Every year my youngest daughter and I make cut out Christmas cookies. We bake them all on one day and then the next day when my husband comes home from his last day of work before taking off for the holidays we all decorate them. We get a little competitive on how can do the best decorations. So we baked today and tomorrow we decorate! Let the holidays commence!

I have three boys, and for Christmas tradition every christmas eve we go to candle-light service and then we spend our time baking cookies and putting out milk for Santa to come! =) We also make a few cookies in honor of baby Jesus having his birthday! =)

  87. Merry Christmas to you and your family Mary. Thank you so much for all your great videos this last month.
As for our Christmas tradition we really do not have one in our family other than that we get together over New Years rather than Christmas.

  88. Love it, our family always makes cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve then my kids puts the magic key on the outside of the door so Santa can get in since we have no chimney. It is how Santa gets into our house each year since the key only works for him. They Christmas Day we all gather at my husbands Grandmothers house and we do potluck dinner over there so she doesn't have to cook anything just enjoy the day.

  89. Looking back, my favorite tradition was something I really miss {even though I thought it was a bit annoying at the time}. My dad and I always went to his friend's house on Christmas Eve. We'd have dinner and then exchange gifts. This was our little tradition up until Greg's {my dad's friend} sudden death. I would give anything to go back in time and have the Christmas Eve at Greg's house back.

    Merry Christmas everyone! Stay safe!!

  99. Aww Mary! You are the sweetest! My husband was in the military for 20 years and so there were many years in which we could not go "home" for Christmas to be with our extended family. So when our children were little we wanted to do something fun. We decided that we would have only finger foods and we would do it picnic style in our living room. We usually watch some kind of Christmas movie. Once in a while we would invite friends to join us. Even though my children are Young adults and teenagers they still love to help me plan our finger food menu.

I wish you a very merry Christmas and wonderful New Year!

My little brother is only 13 so we always let him find it first :-) It's always something fun we've done. Unfortunately we live 12 hours away and haven't gotten to spend the last few Christmas's with family, so this time of year is really hard :-(

I hope you have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Sounds like you are having fun baking and getting ready. I haven't done too much but did make my hubby some cookies to give to the guys at his work.

There we have snacky stuff and all the kids open presents from the extended family. On Christmas Day, my kids open the rest of their presents from their Dad and me. We have a huge family dinner with my side of the family and open more presents. We spend tons of time with extended family members but fit in time for family movie night and Christmas stories too... and lots of holiday crafting and baking also! :)

They bought an elementary school and live there so there is tons of room for all the family. She puts up tables in the school hallway to hold all the food and goodies. the kids can play in the gymnasium and we all gather in the huge huge kindergarten room to visit and eat. Now the room across the hall has a pool table so the guys gather there and shoot pool and the breeze. What a fun time we have to look forward too. We go to a Christmas Eve service every year to enjoy the music and messages. On the way home, we drive around town, enjoying the many homes and parks that are lit with Christmas lights and displays. At home, we gather around the Christmas tree and each of us opens one gift. Now that our 'little guy' is 21, the gift opening is not quite so exciting! In the end, we are all so thankful that our little family is able to spend Christmas together.

They have no family in town so it has been an open invitation to join our family.I have just found your blog recently and am so inspired! Thank you. I am a fairly new Cricut user so winning this would be a thrill. kaffykaffy3@gmail.com

  163. Hi Mary!
Merry Christmas!! We used to have the tradition of buying our little schnauzer, Reggie, several gifts each Christmas. At first we would wrap his gifts and put them under the tree with all of the other gifts, but he had the keen ability to "sniff out" his gifts and he immediately opened them (leaving all of the other gifts alone), so we had to put his gifts up until gift opening time. Sadly, this is our first year without Reggie. We had severe diabetes and had to be put to sleep last January. We'll miss his fun Christmas spirit this year.
Give Sophie a hug for me!

  168. Hello Mary, well 20 years ago there were only two grandkids. My daughter and my middle sister's daughter. They would sleep over my mom's house Christmas Eve to wake up to all the presents Santa would leave them. Now as time come alone we've grown. I have two daughters, my younger sister has two children and my middle sister is due to deliver her 9th child this month. Yes I said NINTH child. So now we have to meet at my mothers house on the 25th. My mother is 71 years old and she CAN NOT handle a sleep over as big as this. So with that said we could never get to my mom's at the same time. It's to funny once all the kids are there. It is CRAZY but we love it. Merry Christmas to you all!

  170. Hey Mary! Merry Christmas to you and yours. Our family gets together on Christmas Eve at my cousin's house to play the white elephant game, then a few of them (without small children) come to my house Christmas morning for a HUGE breakfast. We have been doing it for years and so look forward to slowing down and enjoying each other's company. Thanks for the chance at the giveaway!

  171. There isn't a tradition that we've been doing for very long. Family moving around and such. Now that I have my own little ones I'm hoping to get some started. We're making gingerbread houses this year, and I hope that sticks. I'm also hoping to celebrate with just the 4 of us on Christmas Eve and have the kids open gifts and such then before the rushing around starts on Christmas Day. xosparklesxo03@hotmail.com

  176. Mary I have so many family traditions and they all have special memories attached to them. The one that my husband and I still carry on is to slow down on Christmas Eve to enjoy going to church and then it is home for munchies(that my husband prepares and sets out)and a movie, usually A Christmas Carol. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas season.

  177. Merry Christmas Mary, have really enjoyed your videos.
Our only tradition is to have a secret santa among our family of around 25 people. We each spend about $5-$10 on the one person you picked from the hat and then all gifts are placed under the tree. You then have to guess who brought the gift for you and if you can't guess correctly you have to donate it to the local hospital charity fund. It is just a bit of fun and a lovely way to send some gifts to people who spend the season in hospital or alone.

  178. Merry Christmas, Mary. Thansk for the chance to win the cart. My grandmother used to dress up as Santa on Christmas Eve. All the children would dress as elves and deliver the presents to the adults. the "elves" then chose one gift to open. That left Christmas morning free for everone to enjoy the children and play with them. This has continued into the next two generations.

  179. What a very nice thing for you to do, I enjoy your videos. Christmas Eve we have the tradition of going to the Candlelight Service at our church(where I get to play my violin as part of the service.) For Christmas we have a tradition of homemade cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning, watching football, munching on goodies and hanging out with family.

  182. Our tradition when opening presents is to sit in a circle and open present one by one. When the kids and grandkids were little you could just see them shaking with excitement anxiously waiting for their turn. It was so cute. Now they are teens and still get excited for their turn.
Merry Christmas Mary, I've really enjoyed your blog all year. Hope you keep it up.

  183. How thoughtful of you to give away the cartridge. I love your blog and your videos. They are so inspirational. Can't wait to see what the new year brings. When my daughter was small, her excitement was amazing on Christmas Eve. To help her maintain, we would open our Christmas stockings. She is now 28 years old, and we still hold to that tradition on Christmas Eve. Thanks for sharing and the opportunity to win.

One family Christmas tradition for me is to watch the "Scrooge" musical with Albert Finney. My husband took me to see the movie ages ago at Radio City Music Hall. I liked it so much he bought me the album and then the video...now dvd. It isn't officially Christmas in my house until I've seen it.

  189. My Christmas tradition is not really much of a tradition as much as it is a brief moment of sanity on Christmas Eve, usually the kids get themselves in such a tizzy over the presents that I have to let them open 1 gift on Christmas Eve but the catch is they all have to stay up until midnight, which they usually do and then i get a few more hours of shut eye on Christmas morning hehehe. Thanks Laura.
